Después de cortar todo el contacto con su familia adoptiva, el joven adolescente rebelde Joey Moody vuelve a casa para tratar de vivir en la caravana de su familia real. Sin embargo, las cosas no salen bien, y Joey acaba prendiéndole fuego accidentalmente a la caravana de Ronald Tanner, viéndose obligado a conseguir el dinero para poder pagársela. La desafortunada circunstancia en la que ambos se ven envuelta les lleva a plantearse robar un salón recreativo que se encuentra cerca de la zona en la que viven, aunque la tarea es complicada, pues el salón pertenece a un poderoso político local, Gits Hegarty.
